Apply to Cultural Leadership
Eligibility & Qualifications
STUDENT RECRUITMENT and SELECTION
Cultural Leadership sends applications to more than 100 high schools and houses of worship in the St. Louis area.
To apply, one must:
- Be curious and interested in “changing the world”
- be Black and/or of African descent, have been in the U.S. for at least five years and voluntarily identify as an African-American; or
- be Jewish and have at least one Jewish parent, belong to a synagogue, have knowledge of Judaism and identify voluntarily as a Jew;
- not be Black or Jewish but interested in learning about and being with both groups
- be a sophomore or a junior in high school and live in the St. Louis region;
- have demonstrated a sense of responsibility, leadership potential, curiosity and good communication skills; and
- agree to the tremendous commitment that is added to his/her already busy life.
Completed applications with two recommendations are read by the Recruitment - Selection Committee that narrows the finalists and interviews students personally. Up to 32 students are selected to participate in each class.
Cultural Leadership seeks students who...
- have demonstrated leadership potential, curiosity, and maturity; and
- can show a commitment to their community; and
- possess effective communication skills.

Cultural Leadership exists to create a more just and equitable community by educating high school students to recognize and resolve issues of privilege and injustice through the lens of the African American and Jewish experience. Our students develop leadership skills, build relationships, facilitate dialogues and create change in their circles of influence. |
